141 waterlogging hotspots identified in GHMC: Hyderabad prepares to tackle monsoon challenges

Hyderabad: As the monsoon season approaches, the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) convened a high-level meeting on Tuesday at its Banjara Hills facility to assess and enhance preparedness across departments.

141 waterlogging hotspots identified

The session primarily addressed flood monitoring and traffic management strategies at 141 waterlogging hotspots identified within the GHMC limits. Discussions centred around an actionable plan to tackle potential monsoon-related challenges.

Using TGICCC’s real-time data during rains

To streamline operations and ensure a coordinated response, director Kamalasan Reddy proposed the formation of a dedicated Joint Action Team comprising nominated officers from participating departments. He emphasised the importance of leveraging TGICCC’s real-time data and infrastructure during the rainy season.

Pre-deployment of response teams urged

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand called for proactive measures, urging all departments to anticipate potential challenges and deploy teams in advance at vulnerable locations to ensure minimal disruption during heavy rains.

Need for framework to handle emergencies

Y Nagi Reddy, representing the Fire Services Department, recommended the development of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of each department. He stressed that such a framework is essential for the efficient handling of fire-related and other emergencies during the monsoon.

Commitment to coordinated monsoon response

The meeting concluded with a unified pledge from all departments to collaborate effectively, with a focus on proactive planning, real-time coordination and public safety as the city braces for the upcoming monsoon season.

Multi-departmental participation

The meeting was chaired by TGICCC Director VB Kamalasan Reddy and saw the participation of key officials from the Hyderabad Collectorate, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Fire Services, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Fire Services Academy (HYDRAA), Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), Medical and Health Department, and police forces from Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates.

The participation of all these departments was to ensure that all the measures taken are implemented across departments.
