By Newsmeter Network Published on 30 Jan 2022 7:26 AM GMTHyderabad: The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs. 545 crore for the construction of 15 bridges across the rivers Musi and Esa.
Fifty per cent of the expenditure for the works will come from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) funds and 50% from GHMC bank borrowings. The actual allocation of bridges to the executing agency will be worked out by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department.
"While there are a number of bridges across the Musi river, most of them were built quite a while ago and the city has seen exponential growth since then on both sides of the river. These bridges are not able to bear the traffic load and there is a need to build more bridges and better connectivity across the entire stretch of Musi," read the order by Arvind Kumar, special chief secretary of the MAUD department.
The order further read, "Keeping in view the growing population, better road network and density of traffic, a detailed traffic study was done to assess the locations where additional bridges should be constructed across Musi. Based on the traffic study and also with a view to strengthening some of the existing bridges, 15 new bridges have been proposed."
