Hyderabad: The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs. 545 crore for the construction of 15 bridges across the rivers Musi and Esa.

Fifty per cent of the expenditure for the works will come from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) funds and 50% from GHMC bank borrowings. The actual allocation of bridges to the executing agency will be worked out by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department.

"While there are a number of bridges across the Musi river, most of them were built quite a while ago and the city has seen exponential growth since then on both sides of the river. These bridges are not able to bear the traffic load and there is a need to build more bridges and better connectivity across the entire stretch of Musi," read the order by Arvind Kumar, special chief secretary of the MAUD department.

The order further read, "Keeping in view the growing population, better road network and density of traffic, a detailed traffic study was done to assess the locations where additional bridges should be constructed across Musi. Based on the traffic study and also with a view to strengthening some of the existing bridges, 15 new bridges have been proposed."

The proposed bridges include a pedestrian bridge at Afzalgunj (Rs. 40 crore), a high-level bridge at Missing link Corridor No. 99 on Musi river (Rs. 52 crore), Ibrahimbagh causeway (Rs. 39 crore), a high-level bridge connecting Sun City and Chintalmet (Power Corridor) (Rs. 32 crore), a high-level bridge connecting IRR and Kismatpur Road Bandlaguda Jagir and Rajendranagar mandal (Rs. 32 crore), a high-level bridge at Moosarambagh (Rs. 52 crore), a high-level bridge at Chaderghat (Rs. 42 crore), new bridges parallel to the existing bridge at Attapur (Rs. 35 crore), a new bridge connecting Uppal layout to the south bank of the Musi (Rs. 42 crore), a high-level bridge connecting Manchirevula village-Narsingi (Rs. 39 crore), a high level bridge at Budvel (Information Technology Parks and connecting roads parallel to the Esa river; Rs. 32 crore), a new bridge connecting Hydershakote to Ramdevguda (Rs. 42 crore), a second-level bridge at Budvel (IT parks and connecting roads parallel to the Esa river; Rs. 20 crore), a high-level bridge connecting Pratapsingaram to Gowrelly (Rs. 35 crore), and a new link road to Manchirevula bridge (Rs. 11 crore).
