Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on food adulteration, authorities in Hyderabad have registered 61 cases and seized 15 tonnes of adulterated food products. As many as 64 individuals have been arrested in the cases in one month.

Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar, who disclosed the details, said the figures underline the alarming scale of the menace and the urgent need for sustained enforcement in food adulteration.

Food adulteration a ‘grave attack on society’

Describing food adulteration as more than just a crime, Sajjanar termed it a ‘grave attack on society.’

He expressed concern over the widespread contamination of everyday food items, from biscuits and ice creams consumed by children to essential kitchen staples like ginger-garlic paste, tea powder, milk and curd.

He warned that such practices pose a serious threat to public health, with offenders putting profits above people’s lives.

Government to strengthen food safety mechanism

The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, has announced plans to introduce a dedicated system to strengthen food safety enforcement. Sajjanar welcomed the move, stating that it reflects a firm commitment to safeguarding public health.

H-FAST team intensifies enforcement

In line with this vision, the Hyderabad Commissionerate has set up a special unit, the H-FAST (Hyderabad Food Adulteration Safety Team). Sajjanar said the team is actively working to uncover adulteration networks and take stringent action against those involved.

Zero tolerance against offenders

Reiterating a tough stance, Sajjanar made it clear that no one endangering public health for financial gain will be spared. “There will be no leniency towards those who gamble with people’s lives,” he asserted.

Drive to continue with greater intensity

The Commissioner said the crackdown will be intensified further in the coming months as part of a broader strategy to ensure safe and adulteration-free food for citizens.

He emphasised that sustained enforcement and public awareness will be key to eliminating the menace.
