15‐year‐old sells art, raises Rs 87,200 for Operation Smile

Hyderabad: Alekhya Vemuri, 15, a budding artist from Hyderabad studying Class 11 at Meridian School at Banjara Hills raised Rs 87,200 for charity through the sale of her artwork. On 14 December, she and her parents met Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, and handed him a cheque for the said amount.

This amount will be donated towards 'Operation Smile'- an initiative by the Cyberabad Police for providing education and basic amenities for children rescued from child labour and begging. Alekhya has a keen interest in contributing to society and feels honored to support the cause. She is also a YLAC Counter Speech Alum. Sajjanar appreciated Alekhya for coming forward to help the more unfortunate and make a change in their lives.
