Dowry deaths increased by 13 per cent.

Decrease in robbery and home burglary cases

Robbery cases dropped from 125 in 2023 to 118 in 2024, a six per cent decrease.

There was also a significant 17 per cent decrease in both day and nighttime home burglaries, from 767 to 633 incidents. Crimes against women reported in 2024 dropped by 9 per cent. The Commissionerate saw a 13 per cent drop in domestic violence cases and a 10 per cent drop in cases of molestation and POCSO violations.

Addressing an annual press conference, Sudheer Babu said, ā€œThe year 2024 will be distinguished by their steadfast dedication to justice, public safety, and community well-being, with a focus on VQTā€”visible policing, prompt response, and technology integrationā€”to counteract the rise in crimes, especially those that impact women, marginalized groups and victims from all walks of life.ā€

ā€œWe stepped up efforts to combat drug misuse and trafficking in line with the Telangana State Government's mission. By working together, we were able to apprehend 521 NDPS and drug offenders this year, confiscate drugs valued at Rs 88.25 crore and conduct efficient surveillance on 159 drug traffickers,ā€ Sudheer Babu said.

Rachakonda has the highest conviction rate in Telangana

Elaborating further, the commissioner said for the sixth consecutive year, the Commissionerate Commissionerate recorded the highest conviction rate in Telangana for major offences at 64 per cent, handling a caseload of 33,084 cases with an impressive 76 per cent resolution rate, the most in the State.

Effective monitoring of criminals and crime hotspots led to a 10 per cent decrease in property crime reporting. Activities like SHE teams and Bharosa centres, which were bolstered by more patrols in high-risk areas, created a safer atmosphere for women and children.

Reduction in road accidents

In a significant development, Rachakonda saw a 12.3 per cent reduction in road accident cases and a 12.21 per cent decrease in fatalities highlighting the proactive approach to traffic control taken by the commissionerate.

With a 5,122 sq km area, five national highways, and 61 km of ORR, the mass migration of rural and suburban residents may have contributed to a significant number of deaths. A notable decrease in traffic accidents was the result of stakeholder coordination, enforcement of the Motor Vehicles Act, and public awareness campaigns, Sudheer Babu said.

The CP said that a major factor in these successes was the deployment of certified traffic marshals and large-scale traffic awareness demonstrations. The number of cybercrime cases reported increased by 42 per cent with 4,458 cases this year as opposed to 2,562 last year.

Rs 22 crores lost to cybercrimes recovered

Around Rs 22 crore refund was given to the victims of cyber fraud in 2024.

To increase public vigilance, cybercrime awareness programs that addressed social engineering, fake news, and online reputation management were held in communities, IT companies, and institutions.

ā€œIn National Lok Adalats, we actively participated and helped resolve 70,719 e-Petty cases and 11,440 compoundable IPC and SLL cases. These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to delivering prompt and efficient justice to the society,ā€ Sudheer Babu said.
