26-year-old student from Hyderabad shot dead in US

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old student from Hyderabad was allegedly shot dead in Washington DC, USA, by unidentified persons.

The deceased was identified as K Ravi Teja, a resident of RK Puram at Green Hills Colony, Chaitanyapuri here. He died on the spot after suffering grievous bullet injuries.

Ravi Teja had gone to the USA in 2022. He was staying in Connecticut and looking for a job after completing his MS course eight months ago, said Teja’s family members.

The family received information about his death from a relative staying in America. They also urged the Telangana State government to help bring back his mortal remains to the city as early as possible.

Teja's sister, who also lives in the US, has reached the hospital where the body was kept. Teja's father Chandramouli was inconsolable as he spoke to reporters about the tragic death of his son.

He said his son was looking for a job after completing MS eight months ago and was hoping to secure a job in March this year, and would visit them after getting a job.

Chandramouli said he last spoke to Teja on January 18 night. He also said his son had asked him to come down to the US.

"I got him educated by driving a taxi. We sent him to the US by selling off a small piece of land we had. He brought me to a level (in society) but left me now," Chandramouli said.

"I have come to know that my son was shot dead. I am told that it will take seven days. My appeal to the government is to send back the mortal remains as early as possible. I am not able to speak anything else... I sent him alive, but his body will come now," a grieving Chandramouli said.

He further said, "I was like a bedrock for the family and now shattered. What can I say about her (Teja's mother.)".

“I have come to know that my son was shot dead. My appeal to the government is to send back the mortal remains as early as possible. I am not able to speak anything else,” his grieving father told reporters. “Whether I will be alive or not till that time (the body arrives) is doubtful,” his father said, fighting back tears.

Ravi Teja had told his father that he would come home after securing a job. Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended at Ravi Teja’s house in Chaitanyapuri as his friends and relatives reached the house to extend solidarity to his parents.

Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar spoke to the family members of the deceased student and promised to help them, a release from his office said.
