3 held for illegally procuring, selling Amphotericin B Liposomal injections

3 held for illegally procuring, selling Amphotericin B Liposomal injections

Hyderabad: The Commissioner's Task Force, North Zone Team laid a trap near the NIMS Hospital under the limits of Panjagutta PS and apprehended three persons for illegally procuring and selling 50 mg vials of AmBisome (amphotericin B) Liposome injections, needed for black fungus treatment, in the black market for Rs 35,000 each.

The original price of the drugs is Rs 7,800. One of the accused, Potnuru Mukunda Rao, 32, was previously arrested under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The other two are Kadiyala Chiranjeevi, 22, and Kakarpalli Satish, 22.

The police said that the accused took advantage of the high demand and shortage for Amphotericin B Liposomal injections and illegally procured 30 vials of them from Bengaluru for Rs 7,800 each vial. Mukunda handled bringing in the contraband to the city and Chiranjeevi and Satish helped him sell it even without proper documents. The task force was alerted by a tip-off following which a trap was laid and the three were arrested. The drugs were also seized. A case has been registered.
