The police reached the spot after the incident and started rescue operations and cleared the traffic jam.
There is a canal (nala) adjacent to the road which is connected to different canals that release drain water to the Musi river. According to the locals, similar cave-ins were reported in the 1980s and 1990s. They alleged that illegal encroachments on the nala may have resulted in the cave-in.
This is the second such incident after a similar incident was reported at Goshamahal in the Chaknavadi area on 23 December 2022. A road adjacent to the nala in the Chandanwadi area of the Goshamahal Assembly constituency caved in, shocking the locals. During the incident, local vegetable vendors, a tea stall, cars, and a parked auto rickshaw fell into the hole.
