309 drunk drivers held during checks on Aug 2; highest cases in Miyapur
The city has been witnessing many road accidents, especially due to people driving in an inebriated state

Hyderabad: In an extensive drunk driving crackdown conducted over the weekend at the beginning of August 2, 309 offenders were apprehended. The highest number of cases (52) were booked in Miyapur.
The city has been witnessing many road accidents, especially due to people driving in an inebriated state. To keep a check on this behaviour, major localities in the city, especially the areas around pubs are under the eye of the police conducting regular checks.
According to the Cyberabad Commissionerate, a total of 261 two-wheelers, 11 three-wheelers, 36 four-wheelers and one heavy vehicle driver were caught. As many as 33 offenders were caught with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
All those caught will be produced before the court for processing.
A week ago, the Hyderabad Traffic Police caught 298 drunk drivers on Saturday, of whom 70 were sentenced to jail for 2 to 8 days.
Anyone found driving under the influence of alcohol and causing accidents resulting in deaths will be arrested and sent to jail under Section 105 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) for which the maximum punishment is 10 years of jail and with a fine.
7-year-old dies in road accident
On Saturday, a 7-year-old boy was killed and his father suffered injuries when the two-wheeler they were travelling in collided with a car in the Golkonda Ibrahim Bagh area. The car driver, a 22-year-old college student, was allegedly found to be in an inebriated state.
The car and the two-wheeler were travelling in opposite directions when they collided. The boy was declared brought dead at a hospital and his fatherās condition was stated to be serious.
