₹6 Cr dues: GHMC seals Katriya Hotel, 5 others in tax crackdown
Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has gone whole hog against property tax defaulters and sealed eight establishments in the city.
Six defaulters were also booked. Those booked include Srilakshmi Gyathri Hotels (P) Ltd (Katriya Hotel), Khairatabad, with dues of ₹6.16 crore pending since 2017.
Other defaulters include Aurora College, Nampally (₹1.28 crore since 2016), Swarna Transport, Goshamahal (₹43.78 lakh since 2016), Sony Center, Goshamahal (₹39.68 lakh since 2018), Shameem Sultana Cloth Mall, Banjara Hills (₹35.27 lakh since 2014), and Synfosys Business Solutions, Nagarjuna Circle (₹17.94 lakh since 2012).
Officials said the action is part of a larger list of identified high-value defaulters across GHMC limits, with similar enforcement measures set to continue in the coming days.
Citywide crackdown intensified
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has directed officials to step up recovery efforts and take strict action against chronic defaulters.
Acting on these instructions, Additional Commissioner (Revenue) Priyanka Ala launched a coordinated enforcement drive across multiple circles.
Warrant teams led by Deputy Commissioners have been deployed to identify, attach, and seal properties of major defaulters.
No relief for chronic defaulters
Civic authorities have made it clear that no leniency will be shown to those who have failed to clear dues despite repeated notices. Properties of such defaulters are being seized under provisions of the GHMC Act.
Officials noted that many of the pending dues date back several years, highlighting persistent non-compliance.
Final chance under OTS scheme
Property owners have been urged to utilise the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme before the deadline, which offers a 90% waiver on interest on outstanding dues.
Authorities described the scheme as a final opportunity for defaulters to regularise payments and avoid coercive action.
Online payments only
GHMC reiterated that property tax payments will be accepted exclusively through online platforms, including the official website, MyGHMC app, Mee Seva centres, and Citizen Service Centres.
More seizures likely
With enforcement teams continuing their drive across the city, officials expect more properties to be attached in the coming days as GHMC pushes to recover long-pending revenues and improve tax compliance.
