610 kg of rotten chicken seized in Musheerabad, shop owner arrested

Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Warasiguda police of Secunderabad Zone busted an unhygienic chicken storage and sale unit in Musheerabad, seizing nearly 610 kg of decomposed chicken.

The shop owner has been arrested for endangering public health.

Tip-off leads to raid

Acting on credible information received around 12:30 pm on Tuesday, police learned that a local trader was allegedly selling stale and unhygienic frozen chicken to residents and small vendors in the area.

The accused was identified as Shaik Shakeel (40), owner of A-1 Fresh Chicken Mart located at Bapuji Nagar.

Infestation of rats found

A decoy team first visited the shop to verify the information and found the meat in a visibly decomposed state. Following this, a police team led by Sub-Inspector K Rama Chandra Reddy conducted a formal raid at the premises.

During the inspection, officials discovered:

- Around 610 kg of frozen chicken was stored in highly unhygienic conditions

- Meat emitting foul odour, indicating decomposition

- Contamination due to the free movement of rats and cats inside the storage area

Police said the accused was knowingly selling unfit meat for human consumption, posing serious health risks to the public.

Expired licence, illegal operations

Further investigation revealed that the shop’s trade licence had expired over a year ago, yet the business continued to operate illegally without renewal.

The accused, Shaik Shakeel, a resident of Musheerabad, has been taken into custody. A case has been registered under the relevant sections about food adulteration and public health violations.

Public health warning

Police urged citizens to remain vigilant while purchasing food items and report any suspicious or unhygienic practices to authorities to prevent health hazards.
