Hyderabad: A routine baggage check at a Hyderabad Metro station on Saturday night turned into a security alert after a 9mm bullet was discovered in a passenger’s bag.
The incident took place at one of the city’s busy metro stations when security personnel noticed the ammunition during X-ray screening.
Bullet detected during routine screening
According to officials, the passenger, identified as Mohammed, placed his bag on the scanner before boarding the metro. The security team, upon spotting the bullet on the screen, immediately stopped him and alerted higher authorities.
Passenger hails from Bihar, resides in Moosapet
Preliminary investigation revealed that Mohammed is a native of Bihar and has been living in Moosapet, where he works at a fabrication unit. He reportedly told police that he was unaware of how the bullet came into his possession.
Complaint filed; police begin probe
Following the discovery, metro security staff filed a complaint with the Kukatpally police, who have since seized the bullet and detained the passenger for questioning.
Police are verifying whether the ammunition is linked to any licensed firearm or if it was obtained illegally. Investigators are also scanning CCTV footage and checking if the bullet could have been left in the bag accidentally or deliberately.
Security measures tightened
The incident has prompted metro authorities to review security protocols and increase vigilance at baggage screening points. Officials said the case will be pursued based on forensic and ballistic reports.
