Additional professor at NIMS hospital found dead in apparent suicide

Hyderabad: Dr Prachikar (46), an additional professor in the Anaesthesia Department at NIMS Hospital in Panjagutta, was found dead in her house in Brahmanawadi, Begumpet, in an apparent suicide. She reportedly took an overdose of anaesthetic drugs.

Begumpet Sub-Inspector Jayachander provided details of the incident, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Begumpet police station. Dr Prachikarā€™s husband, Deepak, who hails from Odisha, is also a cardiologist in the city. The couple, married for less than 15 years, have a son. They recently moved from their residence in Brahmanawadi to a new house in Moosapet less than a month ago.

On Friday evening, Dr Prachikar visited their previous house in Brahmanawadi, where she administered a drug injection and lost consciousness. Her husband, Deepak, became worried when she did not answer his calls. He went to the Brahmanawadi house, where he found the door locked from the inside. He broke the door down and found her unconscious.

Dr Prachikar was rushed to NIMS Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she had already passed away. SI Jayachander noted that there did not appear to be any immediate reasons for Dr Prachikar to take her own life, but the investigation is ongoing.

A case has been registered, and her body was sent to Gandhi Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
