Hyderabad: A 19-year-old engineering student allegedly died by suicide at his hostel in Narapally after being harassed over a financial dispute, police said on Monday.
Jhadav Sai Teja, a native of Adilabad district, reportedly hanged himself in his room at Madhu Boys Hostel on Sunday night. Authorities confirmed that the case does not involve ragging.
Altercation at party turns deadly
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sai Teja had attended a party with friends at a local bar. An argument broke out over splitting the bill, which escalated into a physical altercation. The student was reportedly assaulted by some local youths during the incident.

In a video recorded before his death, Sai Teja alleged that he was threatened, insulted and forced to consume alcohol. He also stated that he was coerced into paying a bar bill of Rs 10,000, which added to his distress.
Police register multiple cases
Following a complaint by the student’s father, police registered cases of abetment of suicide, extortion under BNS, and violations of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Student bodies demand action
Student associations have condemned the incident and urged authorities to take strict action against the perpetrators, calling for measures to prevent such tragedies in educational institutions.
