Hyderabad: After two days of heavy rainfall across Telangana, the state is expected to experience a relatively drier Sunday, with only sporadic light to moderate showers in some areas towards evening, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad.
Heavy rainfall in the state in last 48 hours
Telangana has faced widespread rainfall over the past 48 hours, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas and disruptions to daily life in several districts.
The rainfall was largely due to a low-pressure system lingering over the region. With the system now moving away, weather conditions are set to change, bringing relief to residents.
Sunday forecast
The IMD’s Sunday morning bulletin predicts generally cloudy skies across Telangana, with light to moderate rain or thunderstorms possible in parts of the state.
Gusty winds may accompany rainfall in some areas. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 28°C, while the minimum could drop to 22°C.
Independent weather tracker T Balaji noted on X that with the low-pressure area having ‘totally moved away,’ major rainfall is unlikely until evening. He added that scattered passing showers may occur in select regions during the late hours.
Outlook for the coming days
Meteorologists expect the state to experience a continuation of patchy rainfall, mostly in the afternoons and evenings, over the next few days.
According to the IMD’s extended forecast, isolated heavy showers are possible in certain districts, but no widespread heavy rainfall is anticipated. Temperatures are expected to remain stable, with daytime highs in the upper 20°C and nighttime lows in the low 20°C.
Precautionary advice
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas to stay alert during evening hours and be cautious of gusty winds accompanying showers. Farmers are advised to plan fieldwork around periods of likely rainfall, and commuters should watch for localised waterlogging or slippery roads.
Meteorologist KS Sridhar, speaking to NewsMeter, said, “With the main rain-driving system having moved out, Telangana will see scattered showers rather than sustained rainfall. Evening showers may occur, but no major rains are expected today.”
