Hyderabad: In yet another alarming fire incident on Sunday, a blaze at a petrol tanker yard in Cherlapally, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, sparked panic among residents on Sunday.

This comes close on the heels of the tragic Gulzar House fire in the Old City, leaving Hyderabadis increasingly anxious over a spate of recent fire accidents.

The fires have raised concerns over safety protocols in residential and industrial areas across Hyderabad.

What is the cause of the fire?

The incident occurred near an Indian Oil Corporation facility when flames suddenly erupted from a petrol tanker, reportedly due to a technical fault. The alert driver immediately halted the vehicle, preventing a potential explosion and large-scale disaster.

However, the fire quickly spread to another parked petrol tanker and several nearby gas cylinders, triggering chaos in the vicinity. Fearing a major explosion, residents evacuated their homes and ran for safety as thick smoke blanketed the area.

Firefighters responded swiftly, deploying three fire engines and employing technical measures to bring the flames under control. Their timely action helped avert a more serious disaster, and the tankers were later moved to a safe distance.

No casualties were reported, much to the relief of local residents. Authorities are currently assessing the extent of property damage, while an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Firefighters save 50 lives, including 16 children, from a fire in Mailardevpally

A major tragedy was averted on Sunday morning when firefighters rescued 50 people, including 16 children under the age of 15, from a residential building that caught fire in Hyderabad’s Mailardevpally area.

The fire broke out around 7 am in a ground-plus-three-floor building in the Uddamgadda locality. Upon receiving an emergency alert, fire personnel from Chandrayangutta fire station rushed to the scene and launched a rapid rescue operation.

Many residents had fled to the terrace to escape the thick smoke and flames rising from the lower floors. Firefighters used ladders and cleared pathways through staircases to safely evacuate all those trapped inside.

The fire was fully brought under control within 90 minutes. While the exact cause is still under investigation, officials suspect a short circuit may have triggered the blaze. No injuries or fatalities were reported, thanks to the timely and efficient response of the fire department.
