After paying Rs 60K, Telangana’s Yeldi Prabhakar denied job, left to fend for himself in Oman; wife sends SOS
The officials of the Indian Embassy in Oman got in direct contact with Prabhakar
By Mahesh Avadhutha Published on 22 Aug 2024 2:53 AM GMTHyderabad: Close on the heels of Nirmal native Rathod Namdev's miseries in the Saudi desert, the ordeal of one more Telangana resident stuck in Oman has come to the notice of Indian authorities.
Yeldi Prabhakar, 38 has been left high and dry by his foreign employer for the last three and half months in Muscat. Prabhakar, who hails from Maddikunta village of Kamareddy district, is not assigned duty at work, nor paid any salary.
Further, he is denied proper food and is made to stay in an accommodation lacking electricity and water.
Prabahakar's wife Anasuya highlighted the woes being faced by her spouse in a letter written to the office of Protector of Emigrants, Hyderabad which works under the External Affairs Ministry. Prabhakar went to Muscat in May this year.
Anasaya mentioned that Prabhakar went to Muscat to work as a Baldia cleaner (Roadside waste collector) for the Etihad Engineers Business company. A known person from Kamareddy helped them connect with Sam Travel Services, a Jaipur-based recruiting agency. The family shelled out Rs 60,000 as charges after which Prabhakar travelled from Mumbai to Muscat on May 8, 2024.
However, Prabhakar was in for a shock when he reached Muscat. He was not assigned duty as promised and was kept idle besides depriving him of proper facilities, his wife said. She sought action against the foreign employer and the recruiting agency. She also appealed to the government to save her husband and ensure a job and accommodation facility as promised.
External Affairs Ministry reacts
Madad helpline under the External Affairs Ministry has acknowledged the complaint and mentioned that the details have been forwarded to the Indian embassy in Oman for further action. In a post on its X handle, the Madad team requested the victim's family to track the status and progress of the issue on its portal.
Indian Embassy gets in touch
The officials of the Indian Embassy in Oman got in direct contact with Prabhakar after receiving details from the Indian government. Prabhakar is being provided with all possible assistance for the early resolution of the issue.
Kamareddy Collector sends a team to meet Prabhakar's wife
TPCC NRI Cell Co-ordinator Manda Bheem Reddy stated that Indian embassy officials in Oman tried to speak to the employer and the recruiting agency, but there was no proper response. This case may be referred to the Labour Court, he added.
Bheem Reddy, who is helping Prabhakar's family to get justice, has tweeted the representation to senior officials and agencies in Union and state governments. Further, staff from the Ramareddy Mandal Revenue office, upon instructions from the District Collector and Tahasildar, visited Maddikunta village to meet Anasuya and get more details about the issue.
