Agencies like HYDRAA are crucial for safeguarding community resources: Telangana HC
Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has praised the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) for protecting public assets and ensuring environmentally sustainable development in the city.
Court Commendation
Justice Vijaysen Reddy observed that agencies like HYDRAA are crucial for safeguarding community resources such as roads, parks, and open spaces. He emphasized that private gains should never override public interest, particularly when it comes to civic infrastructure and smooth traffic flow.
Encroachment Complaint in Ramnagar
The observations came during a case related to road encroachments in Ramnagar. The Ramnagar Manemma Galli Residents’ Welfare Association had earlier complained to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) about obstructions on the main road. Acting on GHMC’s request, HYDRAA stepped in to clear the encroachment.
Demolition of Illegal Structure
HYDRAA demolished a commercial complex that was illegally built on public road space at Jamunistampur and Ramnagar Crossroads. The removal opened access to the Ramnagar main road, easing traffic movement in the area.
Legal Challenge and High Court Remarks
Following the demolition, the building owner approached the High Court. During the hearing, Justice Vijaysen Reddy justified HYDRAA’s intervention, stating that removing illegal structures that obstruct public movement is both necessary and lawful.
Recognition of HYDRAA’s Wider Efforts
The Court also appreciated HYDRAA’s ongoing initiatives across Hyderabad to safeguard public properties and conserve water resources. Justice Reddy noted that such measures are vital to preserving Hyderabad as a citizen-friendly and eco-conscious city.
