AIMIM urges to complete metro rail in Old City
Akbaruddin Owaisi states that it is strange but true that there is undue delay in extending HMR connectivity in Old City after budgetary allocation is made for the financial year 2022-23
By Newsmeter Network Published on 12 Oct 2022 9:49 AM GMTAll India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Floor Leader and PAC Chairman of Telangana Legislature Akbaruddin Owaisi met Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) Managing Director NVS Reddy on Wednesday and urged him to complete the construction of Old City Metro.
A letter was submitted to him regarding the Hyderabad Metro Rail Corridor in the Old City from Imlibun to Falaknuma.
In the letter, Akbar said that it is strange but true that there is undue delay in extending HMR connectivity in Old City after budgetary allocation is made in the financial year 2022-23.
"Government has allocated funds worth Rs 500 crore for Metro connectivity to the old city," he said.
He said that the amount was allocated after AIMIM's repeated requests and representations to the Telangana State Government. The budget has been allocated for taking up works on the long pending connectivity to the Old City from MGBS, Imlibun to Falaknuma under Corridor-II of 5.5 KM in the current financial year 2022-23.
"I had also requested the State Government to fix the timeline for taking up and completing the Metro Rail works on the Old City stretch. I have been pleading with the government to expeditiously complete the works on the Metro Rail in the Old City but no progress is seen till now," Akbar said, requesting HMR to finish the work as soon as possible.
The first phase of the L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) project was completed across three dense traffic corridors: the Red Line from L.B. Nagar to Miyapur, the Blue Line from Nagole to Raidurg, and the Green Line from Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Falaknuma. The last one was reportedly forced to come to a halt at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station due to a lack of permission to take the line into the Old City. Multiple reasons related to religious and historical structures were cited, according to sources in HMR.
