According to Dr Ragoori, “The father and elder son had been operated on previously, while the younger son of nine years recently developed kidney stones and needed emergency surgery.”
“While it’s not definitive to attribute the condition to genetics, caution is advised when similar issues occur within a family,” added Dr Ragoori.
Dr Ragoori emphasised the importance of regular checkups for children, especially those diagnosed with stones. “A comprehensive metabolic evaluation is crucial to identify any treatable causes in this age group,” he said.
“Notably, dietary restrictions are not recommended for children due to their nutritional needs and active lifestyles,” he added. Parents are urged others to ensure their children stay hydrated, particularly if diagnosed with kidney stones.
Dr Ragoori stressed the significance of seeking medical advice and adhering to regular follow-ups. “With appropriate medical intervention,” he noted. “Conditions like excessive uric acid production or calcium deposits caused by parathyroid hormone imbalance can be treated,” he added.
