Hyderabad: Chief Justice of India NV Ramana urged all educational institutions to teach Indian Constitution to students irrespective of their stream of learning.
He was speaking at the 82nd Convocation of the Osmania University.
CJI NV Ramana was also conferred with an honorary Doctor of Law (L.L.D) for his contribution to the field of law. He said that the degree conferred put a personal obligation on him to do his best for society.
"Our students must be aware of the basic laws and principles that govern the land. The citizens must connect with our Constitution because it is our ultimate safeguard. That is why I insist on the propagation of constitutional culture," he said. For this, he also said the Constitution had to be simplified for everyone's understanding.
On the occasion, CJI also shared his memories about OU. "I wished to pursue law at Osmania University but could not. But I have stayed in the OU hostels with friends, especially in the E hostel. I have spent a lot of time in the canteens and library of the campus," he said.
Telangana Governor and OU Chancellor Tamilisai Soundararajan said there was no shortcut to success and only hard work would take them there. She urged the students to face the challenges of life bravely. "Many students are ending their lives. The younger generation is jittering to face challenges," she said. Further, she asked the students to be systematic in their lives.
Students who had passed the examinations between October 2021 and July 2022 were presented certificates at the convocation. A total of 55 gold medals were presented to 31 meritorious candidates besides 221 eligible candidates were presented with Ph.D. degrees.
