Amberpet Flyover open for a year, but service road still pending; Kishan Reddy writes to CM Revanth
Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy has written to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, urging his personal intervention to resolve long-pending issues related to the construction of the service road beneath the Amberpet Flyover in Hyderabad.
The flyover opening was a year ago
The Union Minister stated that despite the flyover being completed and inaugurated nearly a year ago, the service road remains unfinished due to land acquisition disputes, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Centre’s focus on NH development in Telangana
In his letter, Kishan Reddy highlighted the Centre’s commitment to Telangana’s infrastructure growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that national highway projects worth Rs 1.85 lakh crore are currently being implemented across the state.
Since 2014, about 2,800 km of national highways have been constructed in Telangana, while another 2,500 km are at various stages of execution. With the formation of 33 districts in the state, all districts are now being connected through national highways within a relatively short span, he said.
What is the Amberpet flyover project?
The Amberpet flyover, built on NH-163 (formerly NH-202), was constructed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways at a cost of Rs 265 crore. The 1.5-km-long, four-lane flyover at Amberpet crossroads was inaugurated on May 5, 2025, by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
State Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar were also present at the inauguration.
Service road is pending due to land issues
Kishan Reddy pointed out that although the flyover has been operational, the service road underneath could not be fully constructed as land acquisition for certain stretches remains incomplete.
He alleged that unnecessary obstacles were being created in the land acquisition process, despite compensation of Rs 2.54 crore already being paid to the beneficiary. Due to delays allegedly caused by middlemen and other forces, commuters continue to face severe inconvenience while using the stretch.
The project was originally sanctioned in 2018, but avoidable complications have delayed the completion of associated works, he said.
Issue raised earlier with State government
The Union Minister stated that the matter had been brought to the notice of former CM K Chandrashekar Rao as well as the present Chief Minister on several occasions.
He added that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had also raised the issue with Telangana Ministers multiple times.
Kishan Reddy said he had personally taken up the matter with GHMC officials and other concerned authorities, but the issue remains unresolved.
Appeal for immediate action
In his letter, Kishan Reddy requested CM Revanth to personally intervene and direct GHMC and the State Roads & Buildings Department officials to take necessary steps to resolve the pending issues and ensure completion of the service road at the earliest.
He expressed hope that the State government would act swiftly in the interest of the public and ease traffic congestion in the area.
