Hyderabad: The residents of Ameenpur are not afraid to get their hands dirty. In an attempt to keep their roads plastic-free and reduce garbage in the area, the residents of Ameenpur near Patancheru have taken upon themselves the responsibility of cleaning their area.

"As we all know plastic is dangerous to human life, nature, and animals. The residents of Ameenpur, including children and elderly people, have taken up the responsibility of cleaning the area and making it a no-plastic zone," said Surendra Uplanchiwar, a resident of Ameenpur.

Around 40 residents have started cleaning the area from Sunway to Chaitanya College in Sardar Patel Road. "We tried to clean a two-kilometer stretch. Our main motive is to first remove the garbage around the area and encourage people not to use plastic and instead use reusable bags," said N. Sudhakar, a resident.

Another resident added that encouraging people not to use plastic can also help generate less garbage. "When we use plastic, it accumulates more garbage which lives for hundreds of years. But if we start saying no to plastic when we buy any product from local shops then in the next 10 years we can stop generating tons of plastic," said P. Pawan Kumar.

He also said that the Ameenpur municipality workers helped them collect the garbage and provided four trucks to collect them.

The residents will collect garbage every Sunday morning. "We hope that more people will join us in the initiative," added Surendra.
