AP man hurt in fireworks mishap at Hussain Sagar dies; search on for missing student

Massive fire breaks out in two boats in Hussain Sagar
Hyderabad: A 25-year-old died on Tuesday from severe burn injuries caused by the firecracker mishap during the āBharat Mata Maha Aartiā held at Hussain Sagar here on the night of Republic Day.
The deceased was identified as Ganapathi and he was in-charge of the fireworks at the event. He hailed from West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. He was part of the team bursting firecrackers from a boat in the lake on Sunday night as part of the event.
Organisers did not have permission for fireworks
Soon after the mishap, Ganapathi was rushed to Yashoda Hospitals in Secunderabad with over 80 per cent burns. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Others who suffered minor injuries were discharged from Gandhi Hospital after treatment.
The mishap occurred shortly after Union minister G Kishan Reddy and governor Jishnu Dev Varma left the venue. Police said the organisers did not apply for permission specifically for bursting firecrackers though they had permission to organise the event.
Search on for engineering student gone missing on lake
Meanwhile, NDRF personnel and the Stateās Disaster Response Force (DRF) continued their search to locate an engineering student who went missing in the lake after the boat he was in caught fire due to fireworks. The search that began on Monday morning was hampered by weather conditions, including low visibility and heavy pollution in the lake, they said.
Stray rocket ignited rest of crackers
The student, Ajay, was also in the boat with his friends when it caught fire. However, his friends managed to reach safety while Ajay couldnāt and went missing, police said. Family members of Ajay have approached the police saying that Ajay who went to Hussain Sagar for the programme did not return home.
Police on Sunday said crackers were being burst from the boat in the lake after the Bharat Mata Maha Arti and a rocket hit the crackers kept in the boat leading to the accident. The event was organised by Bharat Mata Foundation.
