By Newsmeter Network Published on 16 March 2021 7:07 AM GMTHyderabad: Anger is brewing against local military authorities (LMA) for building spin breakers (multiple-small speed breakers) on the Army School road at R K Puram.
Road engineering has caused havoc to commuters who are already witnessing accidents due to the absence of street lights. The Army cites security reasons for not illuminating certain roads. It is to note that many main routes, used by lakhs of civilians, fall under the control of LMA.
"An Army school teacher fell down due to spin breakers built on the road near Army school and broke her arm. She is now undergoing surgery. Subsequently, there were few other commuters who met with accidents due to these illegal spin breakers. The LMA had started construction of these spin breakers on RK Puram All Saints road opposite Army school. They have come up with 4 rows of spin breakers. The civic municipal body needs to intervene and stop the Army. This will be a disaster for the entire region, said CS. Chandrashekar, Secretary, Federation of North-Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad.

Malcolm Wolfe, a road safety expert told NewsMeter: "According to the Indian Roads Congress, there are a set of guidelines which needs to be followed while building speed breakers. I understand the LMA wants to reduce the speed of vehicles, but this is unreasonable. Have they done a survey? Is there police permission? The Military Engineering Service is responsible for the roads in LMA, however, they need to seek permission from the local traffic, police authorities".
It is also to note that drivers do not follow speed levels on the road. "Speed breakers do address issues but not the solution to problems" he added.

It is pertinent to note that the LMA has been restricting civilian movements on certain roads for over half a decade by way of night restrictions, installing drop gates and more. The move to build these spin breakers is believed to further restrict or discourage civilians from using the Cantonment roads.
Many netizens expressed their anger on social media and sought help from Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao. KTR was quick direct Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar to look into the matter.
