Hyderabad: Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak held a video conference with all 33 District Medical and Health Officers (DM&HOs) on Friday to discuss summer preparedness and fire safety measures in healthcare facilities.
With the summer season approaching, the health department has instructed officials to strengthen measures against heat-related illnesses (HRI).
Dr. Nayak directed all districts to rejuvenate round-the-clock Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) at district headquarters and ensure the availability of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) sachets with ASHA, ANM, and Anganwadi workers.
āIt is crucial to have essential medicines and IV fluids stocked at all Primary Health Centres (PHCs) to handle heatstroke cases effectively,ā Dr. Nayak stated.
District health officials were also instructed to hold regular coordination meetings with other departments to review summer preparedness and submit daily reports on heat-related illness cases.
Additionally, awareness campaigns will be conducted to educate the public on preventive measures during extreme heat conditions.
Ensuring Power Backup in Health Facilities
Although the state is not facing power shortages, the health department has advised all hospitals and PHCs to check and ensure functional power backup sources, including generators, to avoid disruptions in emergency care.
Fire Safety Measures in Healthcare Facilities
Apart from summer preparedness, Dr. Nayak also reviewed fire safety protocols in hospitals and other clinical establishments.
He directed all DM&HOs to ensure that healthcare facilities are equipped with fire safety equipment and conduct quarterly electrical audits.
āMock fire drills should be held periodically in all clinical establishments to assess emergency preparedness,ā he added.
The state health department will continue to monitor the implementation of these directives to ensure patient safety and emergency readiness in the coming months.
