Bicycle mechanic daughter Deepika Biswas from Asifabad tops in Intermediate

Adilabad: The father has a strong wish to see his eldest child, a daughter, fare well in life, and the daughter has an equally strong resolve to reach dizzying heights in her life. What is more remarkable in their effort is the complete lack of resources that can guarantee success relatively easily.

Deepika is the daughter with the resolve and her father is Maninder Biswas who has dreams for his daughter. He is a small-time bicycle and motorbike mechanic in remote Ravindranagar of Penchikalpet mandal in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. The family has suddenly grabbed the limelight as Deepika scored a fabulous 985 out of 1,000 in the biology stream in intermediate exams, the results of which were declared two days back.

The superb score of this student of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Junior College, Mancherial, reveals the strength of her resolve and is her first step in realising her goals, the immediate one being scoring high in the EAMCET. She spoke to this correspondent on Thursday while returning home after appearing for the test.

“I hope I do well in the EAMCET,” she said as she seemed to go over the test again in her mind. “Hope I get a seat in MBBS easily,” she added.

The statements were indeed brief and tinged with worry. The worry was apparently to ensure that the efforts of her parents do not go wasted.

“I only have the dream of making Deepika something in life,” reiterated Maninder. “I have toiled very hard to achieve this goal,” he stated.

Deepika is the eldest of four children. Her younger sister cleared SSC this year while her brother passed the sixth standard and the youngest sister passed the fourth standard.

The studious girl does not seem to divert her attention away from her studies. Her hobbies are restricted to just reading and music.

Maninder Biswas is a third-generation Bangladeshi from Ravindranagar which was formerly a refugee camp. The Indian government settled Bangladeshis who were arriving in India following persecution by the Pakistan government before Bangladesh was formed.

The Bengali community comprises hardworking people involved in agriculture and manual labour besides business. They are very few educated in the community which reside in Penchikalper, Koutala, Sirpur (T), and Kagaznagar. Deepika is perhaps the best performer in her community at the intermediate level so far.

Asifabad excels

Asifabad district stands in third position in intermediate-first-year results and second position in second-year results with a pass percentage of 74% and 81%, respectively.

According to district intermediate education officer Dr Sridhar Suman, out of 4,000 students who appeared for the intermediate second-year examinations, 3,249 passed in all subjects. In the first year, 3,227 cleared all the subjects out of 4,371 students.

Collector Hemanth Borkade has felicitated the toppers from the district and appreciated their efforts.
