AVEXOMOL-s drug is misleading with advts for treating fever: DCA Telangana

By Anoushka Caroline Williams Published on 13 March 2024 9:12 AM GMTHyderabad: The Drug Control Administration (DCA) in Telangana seized 'AVEXOMOL-s Infusion' , for allegedly making misleading claims regarding its efficacy in treating fever.
On Wednesday, the DCA conducted raids at various locations including Shivrampally, Rajendranagar, Rangareddy District.
"The advertisement of a medicine for the treatment of ‘fever’ in general is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. We raided Ramaiah Medical and General stores, where the product was seized," said K. Anil Kumar, Assistant Director, Serilingampally.
Overpriced medicines:
In another raid, the DCA intercepted overpriced anti-fungal medicine ‘Etrazo-200 Capsules’ in Bhupalpally. The seized medicine was sold under the brand name ‘Etrazo-200 Capsules,’ violated the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, by charging significantly above the stipulated price.
The prices of essential medicines shall be in accordance with the ceiling prices fixed by the Central Government.
Unauthorized stock:
In a raid at a meidcal shop- 'Life Line Medical,' the teams found the shop being operated illegally without a drug licence. In this medical shop in Metpally, Jagtial District, the teams seized unauthorized stocking of a wide range of medicines.
"Stocking of drugs for sale without a drug licence is punishable under Drugs and Cosmetics Act with an imprisonment up to five years," said Narasaiah, Assistant Director, Nizamabad.

DCA emphasized the importance of public involvement, urging individuals to report any suspicions of illegal activities concerning medicines to the DCA's Toll-Free Number.
“These actions underscore the commitment of the Drug Control Administration in Telangana to uphold regulatory standards and ensure the safety and legality of pharmaceutical practices within the state. Further investigations are underway, and strict measures will be taken against all offenders in accordance with the law” Reddy added.
