Bad toilets, algae-filled well: Indira Park walkers complain to GHMC chief about unhygienic facilities

Hyderabad: Citizens raised concerns about unhygienic toilet facilities, insufficient seating arrangements and a well overgrown with algae at Indira Park during an inspection by GHMC commissioner RV Karnan on Friday.

Park users highlight neglect

During his visit, Karnan interacted with senior citizen walkers and other park users who expressed dissatisfaction over the deteriorating maintenance. Taking note of the complaints, he directed the deputy commissioner and Urban Biodiversity (UBD) wing to immediately address the sanitation issues, improve seating and clean the algae-filled well.

Focus on clean, accessible public spaces

Emphasising the importance of safe and clean recreational areas, the commissioner said that parks must be inclusive, especially for the elderly and daily walkers. He added that swift remedial measures will be taken to restore the park’s condition.

Anti-larval operation inspected in Musheerabad

Later, the commissioner visited Arundhati Colony in Musheerabad to review ongoing Anti-Larval Operations (ALO) as part of GHMC’s mosquito control strategy. While some residents acknowledged the presence of teams, others pointed to gaps in implementation.

Commissioner stresses consistent health measures

Reacting to the mixed feedback, Karnan instructed entomology and public health teams to carry out ALO uniformly across all localities, particularly as the monsoon increases the risk of vector-borne diseases.
