Telangana: BJP national general secretary and Karimnagar MP candidate Bandi Sanjay and 10 others were booked for obstructing and injuring the police deployed for bandobast at Chengicherla.

The Medipally police of Rachakonda Commissionerate booked the cases by citing that the inspector of Nacharam police A Nandishwar Reddy sustained injuries in the commotion on Wednesday.

As per police records, following disputes between two communities during pre-Holi celebrations on March 24, the Nacharam police were deployed at Pittal Basti in Chengicherla, Ghatkesar. Members of two groups belonging to different communities clashed and pelted each other with stones following arguments over ‘playing loud music’ near a religious place at Chengicherla.

According to the police, one group used loudspeakers near the religious place and played songs during pre-Holi celebrations on Sunday following which members of another community attending prayers, objected to it and asked them to lower the volume (of the loudspeakers) led to arguments between them and both the groups including women attacked each other.

On Wednesday, the BJP MP visited Chengicherla. He, along with around 50 party activists, barged through barricades to meet victims and their families. When the police tried to prevent them, the mob injured some of the police staffers and a few officers.

According to Nacharam inspector Nandiswar Reddy, he was posted to perform security detail at Pittal Basthi in Chengicherla to prevent an untoward incident caused by the clash between the two communities.

While he along with other staff were discharging checkpost duties at Pittal by barricading, Bandi Sanjay forcefully pushed the barricade and entered, causing harm to the police. They destroyed the barricades despite cautionary orders passed by the complainant, pushed the inspector and other staff and walked through them by deterring them from their legitimate duties.

Nandishwar received a bleeding injury over the upper side of the righthand elbow, the police said.

Based on the complainant, an FIR has been registered under sections 332, 353, 143 r/w 149 IPC, Sec 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and took up the investigation.
