Hyderabad: Thakur Nitesh Singh, a traffic police home guard of the 2013 batch, residing in Dattatreya Nagar, Asifnagar, was arrested for stealing a car.

Singh, who was serving as a traffic police home guard at the Banjara Hills Traffic Police Station since 2017, was detained after a thorough investigation.

The incident unfolded when Singh, on duty, noticed a Mahindra KUV 100 parked near the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) office on Banjara Hills Road No 12 for an extended period. He inquired about the vehicle but received no response from the vicinity. Seizing the opportunity, Singh hatched a plan to steal the car.

Under the cover of darkness, Singh called for a towing vehicle, paying Rs 3,000 to facilitate the removal of the Mahindra KUV 100. Singh Wheels, the owner of the car, discovered the theft when its staff member, Kalvakoori Lokesh, reported the missing vehicle to the Banjara Hills police.

Upon launching an investigation, the Banjara Hills crime police identified Thakur Nitesh Singh as the prime suspect. Singh initially denied any involvement, but when presented with surveillance footage, he confessed to the crime.

Banjara Hills inspector Polisetti Sateesh confirmed the arrest of Thakur Nitesh Singh on Monday and recovered the stolen car. A case has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway. The police are also looking into the possible involvement of two other individuals in the theft.
