Hyderabad: With Dasara and Bathukamma festivities fast approaching, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath has directed officials to complete all works at Bathukamma Kunta on a war footing.

He stressed that the lake should emerge as a scenic landmark and a model for urban water conservation.

Commissioner inspects works

Ranganath on Wednesday inspected the ongoing development at Bathukamma Kunta.

While the lake construction has been completed, he said the surroundings still require major improvements. Pathways, shaded plantations and seating arrangements must be finished quickly for public use, he added.

Flood prevention and water recharge roles for lake

The HYDRAA Commissioner highlighted that Bathukamma Kunta should play a dual role, preventing floods in nearby colonies during heavy rains and enhancing groundwater levels. He recalled how recent central inspection teams had appreciated the project, describing it as a national-level model.

Adding to the recognition, engineers from Bengaluru and officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi recently visited the lake to study HYDRAA’s lake restoration works. They lauded the city’s efforts and expressed interest in replicating similar initiatives in their regions.

Cultural touch to the lake

To reflect the spirit of Bathukamma, the commissioner asked officials to set up a symbolic installation at the center of the lake. He also directed the development of landscaped greenery, domed resting areas for the elderly, hygienic restrooms, and a dedicated Bathukamma ghat for festive use.

Safety and maintenance

Pointing to the need for upkeep, Ranganath instructed that security arrangements be made at the lake to safeguard the facilities and ensure long-term maintenance.
