Blackout, roads inundated, gridlocks: Rains disrupt normal life in Hyderabad

Heavy rains lashed in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Many areas were plunged into darkness after heavy rains lashed Hyderabad on Tuesday night.

Though the rains brought relief from sweltering heat conditions, many of the roads were submerged under water.


On Tuesday evening, major roads near Kukatpally, Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Lingampally, Balanagar, and Khairatabad were flooded with rainwater. Weather forecasters have issued a red alert and advised people to stay indoors.



Telangana weatherman Balaji said a massive downpour lashed the entire South Telangana including Mahbubnagar, Gadwal, Rangareddy, Narayanpeta, and Nagarkurnool districts.

Traffic jams everywhere:

Rains also disrupted traffic in many places. There was gridlock at Kukatpally, Madhapur, Gachibowli, and Jubilee Hills. Due to heavy rains and gusty winds, people traveling in cars had to turn on their parking lights.


With some areas witnessing waterlogging, the teams of Disaster Management swung into action, to avoid untoward incidents.

Blackout in many areas

Many localities in Hyderabad experienced power cuts for at least 12-14 hours since Tuesday night. Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company said: " 11KV feeder interruption resulted in power cuts, The supply will be restored at the earliest".

Many restaurants saw power cuts for hours.

Many of them took to Twitter to share information about power cuts at their place, traffic jam, and waterlogging in their area.

Isolated rains to continue

According to Balaji: "Yet again the convergence zone shifts to North. During the morning and evening today, there will be strong rains and thunderstorms in North Telangana. Hyderabad will have isolated rains on Wednesday evening.”


Wall collapse

In a tragic incident, an 8-month-old died after a wall collapsed due to heavy rains in Rehmat Nagar, on Tuesday night. Identified as Jevanika, she was sleeping in her house at Om Nagar when stones from the railings of an adjacent under-construction four-storey building fell on their asbestos-roofed house.
