Hyderabad: Citizens cited worsening monsoon flooding due to blocked nalas and the conversion of community-designated plots into private properties, as complaints poured into the HYDRAA on Monday.
The public grievance cell received 49 complaints highlighting rampant encroachments on nalas, parks and public utility lands across the city.
Illegal sheds choke nalas
In Fatehnagar, Balanagar (Medchal district), residents alleged that 350 square yards of nala land near SIE Road No. 3, close to a temple, was encroached upon. Three sheds have been constructed there and are being rented out for Rs 1.5 lakh per month.
Locals said the nalaās narrowing due to these structures has resulted in frequent flooding of nearby colonies. They estimated the land value at Rs 3 crore and urged HYDRAA to clear the encroachment before further rains lash the city.
Nala land sold off in Khaiser Nagar
Another complaint came from Khaiser Nagar, also in Balanagar, where a man named Boora Raju allegedly built sheds of 60-80 square yards each on a nala and is selling them as plots.
Residents pointed out that sewage water flow is completely blocked, leading to severe sanitation and flooding issues during rain. Despite repeated news coverage, officials have not acted, they alleged.
Parkland grabbed in Turkayamjal
In Sri Surya Sai Nagar under Turkayamjal Municipality (Abdullapurmet mandal, Ranga Reddy district), locals complained that park land earmarked in 1979 layouts as 500 square yards is being claimed by an individual using an adjacent survey number.
They highlighted that GHMC had sanctioned Rs 18.37 lakh for park development and urged HYDRAA to demarcate and protect the area from land grabbers.
Developers accused of encroaching park area
Residents of Brindavan Meadows Colony in Sahebnagar Kalan, Hayathnagar mandal, alleged that layout developers themselves grabbed a 230-square-yard plot originally marked as a park, later converting it for their own use.
Road blocked by boundary wall in Shamirpet
In USM My City Layout, Shamirpet (Medchal district), residents complained that developers built a compound wall cutting across the internal road, obstructing free movement within the colony.
HYDRAA reviews complaints
HYDRAA Additional Director Sri Varla Papayya reviewed all 49 complaints received and directed concerned officials to conduct site inspections and take necessary action to restore public utility lands to their designated purposes.
