Bold and beautiful: Miss World pageant kicks off in Telangana on May 7

Hyderabad: Telangana is set to host the 72nd Miss World Festival, bringing contestants from over 100 nations to the city of Hyderabad from May 7 to May 31, 2025.

This global event marks a milestone for both India and the Miss World Organisation, as Hyderabad takes center stage as the principal host city.

The event was officially announced at a press conference held at Trident Hyderabad. Present were Julia Morley CBE, Chairman and CEO of Miss World Limited; Jupally Krishna Rao, Minister for Prohibition & Excise, Tourism, Culture and Archaeology, Government of Telangana; Sri Patel Ramesh Reddy, Chairman of Telangana Tourism Development Corporation Limited; and Jayesh Ranjan, FAC as Special Chief Secretary of Telangana Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture Department.

Special guests included actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood, who will be honored with a Humanitarian Award during the festival for his contributions through the Sood Charity Foundation. He will also serve as a judge for the grand finale. Miss India Nandini Gupta, who will represent India at the pageant, was also present.

Global Celebration with Local Spirit

Speaking at the event, Julia Morley expressed her excitement for the pageant’s Indian edition. “It is with immense joy that we bring the 72nd Miss World Festival to the heart of India—Telangana. This state exemplifies the values of our mission, ‘Beauty With a Purpose.’ With its rich cultural heritage, vibrant modernity, and extraordinary hospitality, Telangana is the perfect partner for this global celebration of beauty, purpose, and unity,” she said.

Sonu Sood shared his pride in being part of the festival in his home country. “Being part of the 72nd edition of Miss World in my home country—and especially here in Telangana—is a profound honour. I am humbled by this recognition from the Miss World Organisation and proud to support a platform that champions purpose and change,” he stated. He also announced a collaboration between the Miss World Organisation and the Sood Charity Foundation aimed at spreading awareness for a Cancer-Free World. “This shared commitment will help amplify the message and bring hope to millions around the globe,” he added.

Miss India Nandini Gupta expressed her excitement about representing the nation on home soil. “It fills me with pride to represent India on home soil. Telangana’s charm, warmth, and diversity will certainly be a memorable backdrop for this transformative journey. I’m excited to welcome the world here,” she said.

Jupally Krishna Rao, Telangana’s Minister for Tourism, emphasized the significance of hosting the event. “Hosting Miss World is a proud moment for Telangana. This festival will highlight our cultural roots, modern achievements, and global outlook. It’s an opportunity to showcase Telangana as a model for tourism, inclusivity, and development,” he remarked.

Sri Patel Ramesh Reddy, Chairman of Telangana Tourism Development Corporation Limited, added that the event would strengthen Telangana’s global image. “Telangana is ready to offer the world a glimpse into its timeless traditions and global ambitions. Through this event, we aim to reinforce our identity as a safe, progressive, and welcoming destination for international events,” he said.

Itinerary Highlights: Showcasing Telangana’s Heritage and Innovation

The contestants began arriving at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, on May 6, with traditional welcome ceremonies planned for May 7 and 8. The Opening Ceremony on May 10 at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium will feature a grand display of Telangana’s folk and tribal dances, celebrating the cultural richness of the state.

On May 12, contestants will visit Buddhavanam at Nagarjunasagar, followed by a heritage walk at Charminar and Laad Bazaar on May 13. That evening, they will attend a royal dinner at Chowmahalla Palace with a live musical concert. Heritage tours are scheduled for May 14, with visits to Warangal Fort, the 1000 Pillar Temple, and Bhadrakali Temple for Group 1, while Group 2 will explore the UNESCO-listed Ramappa Temple with a traditional Perini dance performance.

The itinerary also includes spiritual, cultural, and experiential tours, such as visits to Yadagirigutta Temple, Pochampally village, and Telangana’s medical tourism facilities. Contestants will also witness Telangana’s advances in public safety at the Telangana Police Integrated Command & Control Center and view a 3D projection mapping of the state’s growth story.

The competition segment will begin with the Miss World Sports Finale on May 17 at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, followed by various events including the Talent Finale, Head to Head Challenge Finale, and the Top Model and Fashion Final, which will feature local designers and a jewelry and pearl fashion show.

Grand Finale at HITEX and Cultural Celebrations

The 72nd Miss World Festival will culminate in a Grand Finale on May 31 at HITEX, Hyderabad. Srikant T.G, Business Head of HITEX, expressed pride in hosting the event, stating, “HITEX is proud to host the 72nd Miss World pageant at the HITEX Arena. This prestigious international event underscores our commitment to bringing world-class experiences to Hyderabad and showcasing India on the global stage.”

The celebrations will conclude on June 2 with Telangana State Formation Day at Raj Bhavan, where the new Miss World and the Continental winners will meet the Hon’ble Governor and Chief Minister over Hi-Tea.
