Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has recently seized a private water tanker for illegally using its official logo and registered a criminal case against the operator.

The action is part of a wider crackdown on unauthorised water supply operations.

Private tankers are illegally using HMWSSB logo

HMWSSB officials said several private tanker operators are misusing the Board’s logo without authorisation, falsely projecting themselves as government-approved service providers.

The Board clarified that such acts are illegal and amount to misleading the public.

Book only through official channels

Citizens have been advised to book water tankers exclusively through HMWSSB’s official customer care services by calling 155313 to ensure safe and treated drinking water.

Deception erodes public trust

Authorities noted that the unauthorised use of the logo creates confusion among consumers, making them believe that the water supplied by private tankers is part of official HMWSSB services, thereby eroding public trust.

Water from private tankers is not quality tested as per HMWSSB standards

The Board warned that water supplied by private tankers is generally sourced from borewells. It is neither treated nor quality tested as per HMWSSB standards. Officials cautioned that consumption of such water may pose serious health risks.

Strict vigilance and enforcement

HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy has directed officials to intensify inspections and take immediate action against violators. Regular monitoring is being carried out to prevent misuse of the Board’s name and logo.

Public asked to report violations

The Board has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any unauthorised use of the HMWSSB logo to the nearest office or concerned authorities.

Zero tolerance policy

Reaffirming its stance, HMWSSB stated that it will continue stringent enforcement measures to curb such illegal practices and protect public interest.
