Hyderabad: On Tuesday, the Telangana High Court ordered the State government to file a status report on the measures taken to thwart incidents of children being mauled to death by stray dogs and elders getting injured due to dog bites.
The HC Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Jukanti Anil Kumar took up suo motu, the incident that occurred in Patancheru, Sangareddy District on June 29 where a six-year-old boy, a son of the migrant couple from Bihar, working as construction labour in Patancheru, was mauled to death by a pack of six stray dogs when attending nature call.
The dog’s attack on the boy was with such intensity that the boy died on the spot as the doctors said that the vital parts of the boy were severely damaged.
During the course of the hearing, Chief Justice Alok Aradhe expressed serious concern over the feeble efforts put in by the State administration to thwart such incidents, which are taking place continuously.
Chief Justice Alok Aradhe, while turning towards the government counsels for the State and the Central governments, said, “You should have some compassion towards the victims in such incidents… mere paying compensation will not suffice.. the State should formulate some effective policies to ensure that these type of incidents doesn’t happen in future.”
Prior to the Patancheru incident, there was another similar incident of a stray dog attack on kids, which occurred on February 19, 2023, in Yerukkala Basti, Bagh Amberpet, Hyderabad during which a school-going kid died due to the attack of stray dogs.
This incident was published in the daily newspapers and the High Court took up that incident as the Suo Motu case. Now, the Patancheru incident is tagged to the PIL. The case was adjourned till July 10 until further reports are filed.
