Hyderabad: An orange alert issued by IMD for Telangana over the next four days
Hyderabad: Telangana is bracing for another spell of intense monsoon activity, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issuing an orange alert warning of heavy rainfall in several districts over the next four days.
The alert covers the period from 10 am on Sunday to 8:30 am on August 14.
Thunderstorms and gusty winds in forecast
The IMD bulletin also cautioned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30ā40 kmph, are likely at isolated places across all districts. These conditions are expected to persist until 8:30 am on August 13.
GHMC cautions Hyderabad residents
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has forecast moderate to heavy showers, with thunderstorms in some areas between 1 pm and 9 pm on Sunday. Rainfall in certain pockets may range between 30ā50 mm. āIntense storms likely this afternoon & evening ā Stay Alert!ā the civic body posted on X.
City already waterlogged from Saturdayās downpour
Hyderabadās streets were left waterlogged after a heavy downpour on Saturday night.
The Telangana Development Planning Society recorded the highest rainfall at Nampally with 95.3 mm. The city, along with several other parts of the State, has been battered by continuous showers in recent days.
Low-pressure area driving monsoon surge
According to weather enthusiast T. Balaji, popularly known as the āTelangana Weathermanā, the current wet spell is due to a low-pressure area (LPA) over the region. He warned that all districts, including Hyderabad, would feel its impact and predicted heavy rain in several parts of the state on Independence Day.
