Hyderabad: MLA Malreddy Rangareddy threatens to resign as the cabinet expansion does not have representation from city
Hyderabad: Ibrahimpatnam MLA Malreddy Rangareddy has expressed serious concern over the the omission of Greater Hyderabad and erstwhile Ranga Reddy district in recent cabinet expansion.
He said that such neglect could hurt the Congress party’s prospects in the upcoming local body elections.
Addressing a press conference at his residence, the senior Congress leader said that the region, which once had six ministers, now finds itself without any representation in the cabinet. This has caused discontent among grassroots workers, he said.
“There is mounting pressure from party workers. Without representation, it becomes difficult to justify the party’s decisions to the electorate. If necessary, I am ready to step down to highlight this injustice,” Rangareddy stated.
The MLA criticised the leadership for favouring recent entrants into the party while overlooking senior legislators with long-standing service. He argued that cabinet berths should first be allotted to experienced MLAs from all ten erstwhile districts, followed by considerations of caste and social equations.
“It is disappointing to see two to three ministerial posts going to certain districts while others are left with none. This imbalance is demoralising for loyal party members,” he said.
Rangareddy confirmed that senior leaders, including AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, had met with him to address his concerns.
However, he maintained that unless the interests of party workers were safeguarded, internal challenges would continue to grow. In response, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud acknowledged the concerns raised by the MLA and assured that the matter would be escalated to the party high command.
He reiterated that the cabinet expansion was carried out with due consideration of the BC caste survey and SC classification demands. “Malreddy Rangareddy’s concerns are legitimate. There are still three cabinet positions vacant. We will ensure that the Ranga Reddy district receives due representation in the next round of appointments,” Goud said.
The political developments come at a critical time for the Congress, with local elections on the horizon and internal dynamics shaping future leadership decisions.
