Hyderabad: A group of people attacked the car of BJP state president Bandi Sanjay's follower at Necklace Road on Monday night.

Sanjay was neither on board and nor present at the site when the incident occurred.

Earlier, several news channels reported BJP MP was attacked by the opposition party.

Police said some TV channel is showing incorrect news that there was an attempt to kill Bandi Sanjay, BJP state President. This information is wrong.

"Please don't believe such rumors. An oral altercation between two political groups led to damage to the glass of the car. The case has been registered by the central zone police station. There is no injury to anyone," police said.

Police said at about 8.30 pm, they received information that Bandi Sanjay Kumar was moving at Necklace road. Inspector of Ramgopalpet Police Station along with his staff reached the spot and requested him to leave as it is an isolated place and not advisable to move in the area. He agreed to leave after having dinner at Eat Street restaurant. After he left. some party workers of TRS arrived.

Meanwhile, the mob stopped the vehicle of his follower. Police had already reached the spot and tried to control them. In the melee, some of them smashed the front windshield of the car.

"Later the car was removed from the area. All the people who had gathered were dispersed. The occupants of the car went to Ramgopalpet Police Station and lodged a complaint. It was an altercation between two political parties on the suspicion that he was on way to distribute cash," said P. Vishwaprasad, Joint Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad.

BJP however dismissed the police version saying TRS Corporator P Vijaya Reddy with her 100 followers attacked their president when he was on a routine evening walk. BJP also filed a complaint in Ramgopalpet Police station.

"While starting to return at about 8:30 pm to BJP Nampally, all of sudden Vijaya Reddy with her 100 followers came in front of our Fortuner car at Eat Street and asking for the purpose of visiting necklace road. They abused us and used filthy language. While we are about to move, they attacked our State President Bandi Sanjay Kumar," said D Gopal, BJP state office Co-ordinate.

D Gopal said the mob attacked the office vehicle and injured the driver Anil Kumar. "Police dispersed the mob. If the police were not there, they would have killed Bandi Sanjay Kumar," said D Gopalji
