Hyderabad: A car overturned in the early hours of 9 January in LB Nagar. The police said the driver was drunk when he crashed the vehicle into a divider.

The driver of the overturned Honda Amaze was identified as Pantangi Srinath (36), a resident of Karmanghat in Saroornagar. "When the patrolling staff informed us about the incident, we rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry. The preliminary inquiry revealed that Srinath, who was driving from Nagole to Karmanghat, was drunk," said V. Ashok Reddy, an inspector of LB Nagar police station.


A case has been registered and the accused has been taken into custody for further investigation.

Interestingly, as per the information obtained from the website of Telangana State Police Integrated E-Challan System, the same car was earlier fined Rs. 13,350 in 12 violation cases (mostly over-speeding and dangerous driving) in different police station limits in the city.



On the nights of 31 December 2021 and 1 January 2022, the Cyberabad police conducted drunk driving tests across Cyberabad to prevent road accidents and other untoward incidents. They had arrested 873 persons for driving under the influence of alcohol and booked cases against them. Around 490 persons had an alcohol reading of more than 100 mg/100 ml of blood,37 had more than 300 mg, and eight persons had more than 500 mg reading. Most of the cases were reported in Kukatpally, Gachibowli, Madhapur, and Miyapur areas.
