Hyderabad: The much-awaited Cherlapally Railway Station will open for the public on January 6. The new terminal would provide passengers with improved services and contemporary amenities, aimed to decongest the traffic at the city’s main stations, Secunderabad, Nampally and Kacheguda.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the Cherlapally terminal from New Delhi, while the BJP leaders and Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and G Kishan Reddy will participate in the program on the site.
Initially, the Centre decided to inaugurate the new terminal on December 28. However, it was postponed following the death of former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh and a seven-day mourning for the veteran politician.
Nine platforms with accommodation for 20 trains
The Cherlapally Railway Station Terminal will have nine high-level platforms, two-foot-over bridges, five escalators and five lifts, and was built at an estimated cost of Rs 430 crore. It is anticipated that it will be able to efficiently manage the increasing passenger flow and accommodate 20 long-distance trains.
According to the South Central Railway (SCR) officials, the Cherlapally station was built on the city’s eastern outskirts, which comprises LB Nagar, Uppal and Malkajgiri, which have been witnessing rapid development being situated near the Outer Ring Road.
After its inauguration, the station would facilitate the people in the above-mentioned areas and relieve congestion at current terminals and accommodate the growing demand for train services in the twin-city region.
Airport-quality amenities at new terminal
The terminal is equipped with a variety of amenities similar to those found in airports, ensuring a smooth travel experience for all passengers, the officials said. The new facilities include an executive lounge, waiting areas, sleeping pods, cafeterias, dining options, elevators, escalators, foot-over bridges, EV charging stations and other contemporary conveniences.
To improve accessibility, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has begun expanding approach roads and building additional routes to the terminal. In addition, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is organising bus services from multiple city depots to guarantee seamless connectivity for people arriving from diverse regions of Hyderabad.
