Chicken was the most-ordered item in Hyderabad in 2021: Report

Hyderabad: Chicken was the most-ordered item in Hyderabad in 2021 followed by fish, mutton, and eggs, according to a report by FreshToHome, an online fish and meat e-commerce site. Chicken, mutton, fish and prawns were also the most ordered products on its website and app.

The most-ordered ready-to-cook items in Hyderabad were tangy Chicken Ghee Roast, Spicy Chettinad Chicken, Granny's Masala Fried Chicken, Yummy Chicken Cutlets, and Handcrafted Chicken Dumplings/Momos, the report said.

While chicken and rohu fish were the most sought and ordered products across north India, down south, chicken still ruled everyone's heart and sardine was the fish of choice, followed by the meaty mutton. Interestingly, chicken was also the most "added to cart" item and then forgotten across all the cities in India.

Shan Kadavil, the co-founder and CEO of FreshToHome, said, "2021 has been a great year for FreshToHome. The report reveals some interesting and evolving trends in the industry. The report revealed that we received one order every second in 2021 while people's love for chicken across the country became more evident as it became the most ordered product everywhere. Fish continues to be a very large percentage of the protein requirement in India."

The report also revealed that Christmas saw the highest orders for meat, fish, and seafood while the lowest orders were recorded during the month of February 2021.

According to the report, green mussel, a shellfish native to New Zealand but adopted by Indians, was the fastest to fly off the shelves soon after being launched on the FreshToHome platform. Some of the most popular meat cuts favoured by different cities included fish, chicken, and mutton curry cut followed by chicken breast fillet and chicken cube.

There was a surprising change in the items favoured by different cities. Where Delhi showed special love for chicken drumsticks, Kerala's most ordered fish was basa/pangas. Chennai relished and favoured chicken gizzard more than any city while Bangalore reflected its fondness for Tangy Chicken Ghee Roast among marinades.

Surprisingly, eggs were the most popular items in 2021. The report also suggests that the highest buyer of meat, fish, and seafood in a single year on the FreshToHome app spent Rs. 9.6 lakh.
