Hyderabad: In recent times, Hyderabad has witnessed a surge in activism, particularly in the realm of law enforcement.
Amidst this surge, the Legal Metrology Department seems to have fallen behind in its responsiveness and effectiveness. While other agencies like the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have been visibly active, the Legal Metrology Department appears to be in a state of inertia, much to the dismay of the city's residents.
Mohd Abdul Yousuf, a representative of Helping Humans Hyderabad, expressed deep concern over the inactivity and unresponsiveness of the Legal Metrology Department. He highlighted a recent incident where his organization had brought to the department's attention the issue of unfair trade practices and overcharging beyond the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) by certain restaurants in Hyderabad. Despite sending multiple emails outlining the grievances, there has been no tangible response from the Legal Metrology Department. Even after a year has passed, the department has failed to acknowledge or address the concerns raised.
"It's disheartening to see the lack of action from the Legal Metrology Department," remarked Mohd Yousuf. "We expected them to uphold consumer rights and ensure fair trade practices. However, their silence speaks volumes about their inefficiency and disregard for the welfare of citizens."
Citizens of Hyderabad have been actively tagging the Officials on social media platforms, raising awareness about their rights and demanding action against errant establishments. However, their efforts seem to have fallen on deaf ears as the department remains passive and non-responsive.
"It's frustrating to see the department's apathy towards our concerns," lamented a resident of Hyderabad. "We rely on them to safeguard our interests and ensure that businesses comply with legal standards. But their lack of action undermines our faith in the system."
The situation raises questions about the effectiveness and accountability of the Legal Metrology Department in Hyderabad. Despite being entrusted with the crucial task of regulating trade practices and protecting consumer rights, the department's lethargy and inaction have left citizens feeling vulnerable and disillusioned.
As the city grapples with the challenges of unfair trade practices and overcharging, the urgency for the Legal Metrology Department to spring into action cannot be overstated. The department must address the grievances of citizens promptly and take proactive measures to enforce legal standards across establishments in Hyderabad.
The onus lies on the authorities to revive the dormant Legal Metrology Department and restore public confidence in its ability to uphold justice and fairness in trade practices. Only through swift and decisive action can the department redeem itself and fulfill its mandate of safeguarding the rights and interests of the people.
