Civic Issue: Stagnant drainage water hinders escalator entry outside Erragadda Hospital
Numerous individuals, including schoolchildren, patients, and their attendants, rely on this foot overbridge
By Newsmeter Network Published on 30 March 2024 2:13 AM GMTHyderabad: People wanting to use the escalator installed for the convenience of pedestrians between Erragadda Government Psychiatric Hospital and the ESI Hospital in Hyderabad are facing an unexpected challenge: stepping into stagnant drainage water.
Constructed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), this foot-overbridge was intended to facilitate safe passage for pedestrians crossing the busy road. However, the presence of drainage water around the escalator has become a growing concern for the public.
Daily, numerous individuals, including schoolchildren, patients, and their attendants, rely on this foot overbridge to commute between institutions such as the Central Unani Hospital, Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Psychiatric Hospital, and ESI Hospital. The escalator was designed to ease their journey across the road, especially for those with mobility issues or carrying heavy loads.
Unfortunately, the stagnant drainage water regularly surrounding the escalator has created an obstacle for users. Patients and their attendants, along with elderly individuals and others seeking to utilise the escalator, are compelled to step into the water, posing potential health and safety risks.
Residents and commuters are calling on GHMC authorities to resolve the issue by draining the stagnant water and implementing measures to prevent its recurrence.
