‘CLAP for Children’: Hyderabad unveils city-wide plan for child safety, health, protection

Hyderabad: To transform Hyderabad and make more safer for children and young people, the city has launched ‘CLAP for Children – A City-Level Action Plan for Child-Safe Hyderabad.’

The project was launched on Thursday by the Government of Telangana, in partnership with UNICEF and the Hyderabad District Administration.

Cross-department efforts

The initiative brings together government departments, statutory bodies and communities to ensure that every child in Hyderabad grows up safe, healthy and supported.

Focus on drug abuse and unsafe commuting

Key focus areas include:

- Strengthening statutory bodies and frontline services for timely protection.

- Coordinated action across Women and Child Development, Police, Health, Education, Labour, Social Welfare, GHMC, Panchayat Raj, and Disaster Management.

- Active child and community participation to address bullying, eve-teasing, unsafe commuting, and drug abuse.

- Data-driven monitoring and accountability through child protection cells and vigilance committees.

Training for frontline workers

The project will also focus on capacity-building and regular training for frontline workers on child-friendly and trauma-informed practices. Speaking on the occasion, the ministers present at the event reaffirmed Telangana’s collective commitment to make Hyderabad a model 'Child-Safe City' for Telangana and set a model for other cities and states.
