New Delhi: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to transfer 98.20 acres of defence land in Hyderabad for the ambitious Gandhi Sarovar Project.

The meeting took place in New Delhi on Wednesday, where the Chief Minister pitched the project as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy and a symbol of national integration.

‘Gandhi Circle of Unity’ at Musi–Esa Confluence

CM Revanth explained that the Gandhi Sarovar Project is planned at the confluence of the Musi and Esa rivers, where the State government proposes to establish the ‘Gandhi Circle of Unity.’

He stressed that the initiative would stand as a timeless emblem of Gandhi’s ideals and values.

Renewed push for Defence Land

This is the second major request made by the Telangana government.

In November last year, the Chief Minister had sought the transfer of 222.27 acres of defence land for developing Gandhi Sarovar at Bapu Ghat, the site where Gandhi’s ashes were immersed.

Project components outlined

The Gandhi Sarovar project aims to blend heritage, culture and public spaces. The proposed facilities include:

- A knowledge hub to spread Gandhian philosophy globally

- A meditation village for reflection and peace

- A handloom promotion centre to support khadi and artisans

- Public recreation spaces and landscaped gardens

- A museum dedicated to Gandhi’s life and teachings

- A statue of peace as a central attraction

World’s tallest Gandhi statue

CM Revanth has also announced plans to install the world’s tallest statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Bapu Ghat, adding international prominence to the project and turning the site into a landmark of peace and unity.
