CM Revanth asks officials to extend Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 to Future City
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has decided to extend the metro rail up to Future City and instructed officials to prepare the final proposals required for the project.
On Friday, the CM conducted a review meeting at the command and control centre regarding the metro expansion.
During the meeting, the chief minister reviewed the progress of proposals related to Phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro expansion. Officials informed him that Central government approvals were pending and that they had already held consultations with officials in Delhi.
Metro Phase 2 expansion in numbers
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a total extension of 76.4 km has already been submitted to the Central government with an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crore. The expansion includes:
Nagole to Shamshabad Airport - 36.8 km
Raidurg to Kokapet Neopolis - 11.6 km
MG Bus Station to Chandrayangutta - 7.5 km
Miyapur to Patancheru - 13.4 km
LB Nagar to Hayathnagar - 7.1 km
The State government has proposed implementing this project as a joint venture, with both the Central and State governments sharing the funding. The chief minister instructed officials to continue pursuing approvals from the Centre and to be ready to begin work immediately once they are granted.

Metro to Future City
The chief minister also directed officials to prepare a new plan to extend the metro by 40 km from the airport to the Young India Skill Development University in Future City.
He noted that Future City is expected to develop across approximately 30,000 acres, and considering the future urban expansion, the metro should be extended up to Mirkhanpet. He instructed officials to prepare a new DPR with required cost estimates and submit it to the Central government.
Furthermore, he emphasised that the HMDA and the FSDA (Future City Development Authority) should be made stakeholders in this metro extension project.
Musi River Rejuvenation Project
The CM also instructed officials to expedite the works of the Musi River Rejuvenation Project. He reviewed the designs for the proposed Gandhi Sarovar at Bapughat and the bridge to be constructed over Mir Alam Tank.
Mir Alam Tank bridge proposals in June
CM Revanth directed that tenders for the bridge over Mir Alam Tank be called for in June. He instructed officials to complete all necessary surveys, reports, proposals and designs to prepare the DPR in the meantime.
During the review, the consultants presented sample designs for the bridge over Mir Alam Tank through a PowerPoint presentation. The chief minister emphasised that the 2.5-kilometer-long bridge should be constructed magnificently while also prioritising the safety of tourists and commuters with appropriate designs. Alongside the bridge, he instructed that three island areas in Mir Alam Tank be beautifully developed to attract tourists.
He suggested that these islands should be developed beautifully like the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, including attractions like Bird Paradise and Waterfalls. He also said the designs should include convention centres suitable for wedding destinations, an adventure park, a theme park, and an amphitheatre. Facilities for boating, along with resorts and hotels for tourists to stay, should be made available.

Water purification and development of islands
The chief minister instructed that the DPR should include all proposals necessary for water purification in the tank and the development of the islands. He directed officials to prepare proposals to develop the island zone under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
He emphasised that the water availability in Mir Alam Tank and the intensity of water flow during floods should be assessed in advance, and designs should be prepared with foresight to avoid future problems. He instructed that expert hydrology and environmental surveys be conducted by professionals or reputed organisations in the field and that necessary permissions be obtained based on their reports.
Upgrading zoo park
In addition to the bridge, the chief minister suggested connecting the island zone with the nearby Zoo Park. He instructed that the Zoo Park should be upgraded in line with the development plan of the area.
The CM directed officials to consult with zoo authorities and explore all possible options for upgrading it in compliance with regulations. He also asked them to prepare development proposals that would further attract tourists.
