Replace old water pipelines, says CM Revanth
Speaking on the occasion, CM Revanth said a study should be conducted with agencies and consultancies to prepare a sewerage plan and a plan for drinking water suitable for future needs. He asked the officials to expedite a new project to replace the existing age-old pipelines that have been supplying water to many areas of the city through the Manjira River since 1965.
The officials informed the chief minister that drinking water is being supplied to the population in Hyderabad city through a distribution network of 9,800 km with 13.79 lakh connections. The water is supplied to the city from Manjira, Singur, Godavari and Krishna rivers.
Godavari phase-2 project
A project designed to supply drinking water to Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar through Godavari phase-2 was discussed in the meeting.
Based on the report by the consultancy regarding the drinking water requirements of Hyderabad, the initiation of the Godavari phase-2 drinking water supply project from Mallanna Sagar was discussed, keeping in view the water availability and lifting cost.
Instead of the earlier proposed 15 TMC, the officials approved the changes to move 20 TMC of water for the cityās needs. While explaining the revenue expenditure report of HMWSSB through a PowerPoint presentation, the chief minister suggested that the board should look for ways to increase their own income and study the procedures to be followed.
He also suggested that the board should provide necessary funds for new projects and choose alternatives to get loans with low interest. The CM also asked for the submission of project DPRs. Telangana chief secretary A Santhi Kumari and officials from the HMWSSB were also present.
