Hyderabad: CM Revanth Reddy with Nagayya who was his inmate in Cherlapally Jail when he was detained in the Vote-for-Note case

Hyderabad: Thari Nagayya, a former inmate of Cherlapally Central Jail, met chief minister A Revanth Reddy at his Jubilee Hills residence on New Yearā€™s Eve.

Nagayya was imprisoned for almost 15 years for killing his son by drowning him. He was given a life sentence. CM Revanth Reddy met Nagayya in Cherlapally Jail when he was detained in the Vote-for-Note case.

During their time in jail, Revanth and Nagayya became close friends. Nagayya reportedly took care of Revanthā€™s needs such as cooking for him.

CM Revanth praises Nagayyaā€™s ā€˜political acumenā€™

In an interaction with vernacular media, CM Revanth discussed his acquaintance with Nagayya, even praising his ā€˜political acumenā€™. Nagayya, in turn, told the media that CM Revanth had promised to release him from jail if Congress came to power.

Keeping his word, CM Revanth ensured that his convicted friend was released from prison. On July 4 last year, Nagayya was among the 213 prisoners granted premature release by the Telangana State government.

Their recent meeting was the first time they met after Nagayya's release from jail.

Nagayya hopes for CM's presence at his daughter's wedding

Speaking to vernacular media, Nagayya said, ā€œThis is my first time meeting Revanth as the chief minister after my release from jail and spent around 20 minutes with him. CM Revanth Reddy has asked me to meet him again after a fortnight along with the MLA Jayaveer Kunduru for providing employment.ā€

Nagayya said that on the occasion of meeting the chief minister, he would provide food to the differently-abled persons in his village for Rs 10 per plate for the next five months starting January 5.

ā€œI am very confident that the chief minister will keep his word given to me regarding providing me a job. I am also hoping that CM Revanth Reddy will attend my daughterā€™s wedding in the coming months,ā€ Nagayya said.
